Welcome to Burtch: Why What You Wear Matters

Welcome to Burtch: Why What You Wear Matters

Most of us think carefully about what we eat. We read labels. We avoid ingredients we don’t recognize. We care about where our food comes from and how it affects our bodies.

But when it comes to clothing — especially the basics we wear every single day — we’ve been taught not to ask questions.

Burtch exists because we finally did.

The Question That Started It All

Modern clothing is dominated by synthetic, plastic-based fabrics like polyester and nylon. They’re cheap to make, easy to market, and nearly impossible to avoid. What’s less discussed is what happens when these materials sit against your skin for hours at a time — especially in areas where heat, sweat, and friction are constant.

Your skin is your largest organ. It absorbs what it comes into contact with. And yet, most apparel today is made with materials never designed with long-term human health in mind.

That disconnect didn’t sit right with us.

Why Clothing Is Part of the Health Conversation

Plastics don’t stay put. Microplastics and chemical additives used in synthetic fabrics have now been detected in air, water, food — and human tissue. While research is still evolving, the presence of these materials where they don’t belong raises important questions.

If we care about what we put into our bodies, shouldn’t we also care about what we put on them?

We believe the answer is yes.

What Burtch Is Building

Burtch is creating a new category of everyday essentials — underwear, socks, and basics designed with health, comfort, and durability at the core.

We focus on:

  • Natural, breathable, body-safe materials

  • Thoughtful construction that supports movement and comfort

  • Timeless design that doesn’t chase trends

  • Transparency about what goes into our products and why

No greenwashing. No buzzwords. Just better choices, made intentionally.

Why We’re Starting With Men

Men’s basics — particularly underwear and athletic wear — are some of the most synthetic-heavy products on the market. These garments sit close to the body, trap heat, and are worn daily, often for years.

We believe this category deserves better.

By starting here, we aim to protect, inform, and support long-term comfort and confidence — while building products men actually want to wear.

Who We Are

Burtch is built by a team of women who care deeply about the men and boys in our lives — our fathers, brothers, husbands, and sons.

This brand is personal.

We’re not here to scare people or tell anyone what to do. We’re here to offer a better option, share what we’re learning, and help shift the conversation around clothing and health.

What This Blog Will Be

This space is where we’ll talk openly about:

  • Fabric choices and material science

  • What we’re learning (and still questioning)

  • How clothing impacts comfort, confidence, and well-being

  • How the apparel industry can do better

Some posts will be educational. Some will be practical. Some might challenge what you’ve always assumed.

All of them will be honest.

The Bottom Line

What you wear touches your skin all day, every day. That matters.

We’re building Burtch to prove that comfort, style, performance, and health don’t have to be trade-offs — and that better basics are worth demanding.

Thanks for being here at the beginning.
